Yoga for Self-Connection
A trauma sensitive, choice-led yoga class by Jen Brooks
Yoga for Self-Connection is a welcoming yoga class. The class offers time to be with whatever you are bringing, move as you like and pay attention to your own experience. Rather than working towards a particular shape, you’ll be invited to explore movement in ways that feel appropriate for you.
You don’t need to be flexible or experienced in yoga to take part. There is no expectation to do anything that doesn’t feel right for you.
Mondays: 6pm–7pm
All equipment provided
All bodies, levels of yoga experience and physical fitness are welcome.

What is Yoga for Self-Connection?
This is an accessible, exploratory approach to yoga that puts your own choices and experience at the centre of the practice. A session may include simple yoga movements, opportunities to notice physical sensations, and make choices. You might explore a movement in one way, choose a different option, or decide not to do it at all. The intention is to give you space to discover what feels comfortable and useful for you on the day. There is no particular shape you need to achieve and no requirement to keep up with anyone else.
The class is facilitated by Jen Brooks and draws on Hatha and Yin yoga alongside the Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga approach.

A class where you can make your own choices
You will be offered options throughout the session rather than being expected to follow instructions in a particular way. For example, you might be invited to choose whether you would like to:
- make a particular movement
- change the position of your body
- continue or pause
- explore a different option
- notice a physical sensation
- be still rather than make movement
You are always welcome to make your own decision. This makes the class suitable for people with different bodies, abilities and levels of yoga experience.
Who is this class for?
Yoga for self connection is for anyone who is interested in providing themselves time and space to be in their body.
All levels of yoga experience are welcome.
You may like to
- be more present
- understand your own wants and needs better
- feel more able to make decisions
Powered by the Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga model, yoga for self connection is also for anyone who identifies as having experienced complex trauma or CPTSD. The quote below by the founders explains more:
“We view trauma-sensitive yoga as a way to make peace with your body, to learn through experience that your body can be effective again, and to reclaim your body as your own.” (David Emerson and Elizabeth Hopper, Overcoming Trauma Through Yoga: Reclaiming Your Body, 2011).
If you have a particular physical or health concern and are unsure whether the class is appropriate for you, please feel free to contact Jen before booking: tevi.yoga.flow@gmail.com.
