A (w)holistic approach allows individuals to have more control over their wellbeing and recovery, encouraging them to learn how to look after their health with longevity in mind, rather than with quick fixes, as is often advocated by Western medicine.

Often, when booking an appointment with a GP, you are only allowed to focus that appointment on one health complaint. If you want to speak about more than one issue, you are encouraged to book another appointment to discuss it. This is a problem as complaints (like the body) are interlinked. Although it may seem like your nose has nothing to do with your knee, there could be a relationship between the issues you are having in these two areas!

A (w)holistic approach allows individuals to have more control over their wellbeing and recovery, encouraging them to learn how to look after their health with longevity in mind, rather than with quick fixes, as is often advocated by Western medicine.

We named our clinic Anahata because it is the heart chakra. It sits right in the middle; the three chakras below are to do with the body and the three above with the spirit. So, the heart chakra is the bridge between the body and the rest of the human complex. And this is what we are concerned with: integrating the health of the body, mind and spirit.

Interestingly, the etymology of ‘therapy’ has its roots in the Greek ‘to heal’, and the word ‘heal’ has its roots in the word ‘whole.’ Language is the key to understanding the long history we humans have of knowing that health is synonymous with wholeness. Traditional medical practices such as acupuncture, herbal remedies, massage (and so much more!) are all practices that look at how to heal the whole body. These practices are not fragmented but integrated by seemingly small cumulative interventions with powerful whole-body effects.

Not only do more treatments give you more results in terms of alleviating existing issues, but regular wellbeing treatments can help to prevent issues from occurring in the first place. When only looking at isolating factors or single ‘complaints’, we separate the person into mechanical components away from their intrinsic wholeness. It is only by asking questions that look at everything (even the things that appear to be ‘fine’) that we begin to weave together a vision of the person in health and so discover what is wrong or causing the dis-ease.

In our 15 years, we have been thrilled to be able to make a real difference to people who come to us feeling let down by Western medicine. (When we first discussed a name for our new clinic, we strongly considered calling it the ‘Last Resort’ – we could help you much more effectively if you came to us earlier, and we could help maintain that optimum wellness too, rather than always trying to deal with what originally started as a small hitch or lack of coordination in the amazing integrated system of our body, that has now become a physical issue, or ‘dis-ease’).

By integrating our approach, we can recommend and deliver what is best for you to heal as quickly as possible. Different treatments working in an integrated way give you more results in terms of alleviating existing issues. For example, massage therapy is multifaceted, working at healing both the body and the mind simultaneously. The ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture has grown to be a widely accepted form of treatment for a plethora of health issues, from treating lower back pain to migraines, digestive disorders, arthritis, as well as anxiety and depression. For the more serious illnesses where Western medical drugs are essential and lifesaving, acupuncture is very often successfully used in alleviating unwanted drug side effects, improving quality of life considerably.
