Colonic Hydrotherapy & Nutrition
Book a Colonic Hydrotherapy Session
Colonic hydrotherapy is an age-old practice, going back to ancient Egypt and practiced today in traditional health systems, such as Ayurveda.
The procedure involves gently introducing filtered, warm water into the bowel and allowing it to release. This is repeated several times over 40-60 minutes. A ‘closed’ system is used, meaning all waste is removed without any mess or smell. It is a one-on-one treatment, with minimal bodily exposure and respect for privacy throughout.
What does Colonic Hydrotherapy help with?
Gut issues Colonic hydrotherapy is an excellent addition to the gut healing protocols I use with my clients; it removes compacted faecal matter, eliminates toxins that can be a by-product of herbal parasite cleanses, and it re-trains a sluggish bowel.
Cleanses/detoxes/fasts A colonic is a fundamental part of any cleanse, detox, liver flush or fast, mini or extended. It ensures that the toxins are eliminated and not re-absorbed through the colon wall.
Many other connected health issues As your gut health status and toxic load underpin your overall health, colonics have far-reaching benefits, including and not limited to helping with: IBS, PMS, migraines, skin issues, anxiety, depression, peri-menopause symptoms, chronic fatigue, weight-loss programmes and cancer.
Having a colonic is a simple step you can take towards detoxing and practicing preventative health and will leave you feeling lighter, energized and relaxed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be naked?
No. You cover your lower half with a towel and there is minimal exposure. I am very careful to respect your privacy throughout.
Will it wash away the good bacteria in my gut?
The aim of colonics is not to get rid of bad bacteria, but instead to flush out accumulated waste, parasites and hardened faecal matter that is lodged in crevices; also to re-train the bowel, so that bowel movements are more regular.
Is it hygienic?
I use disposable tubes for the colonic so there is no risk of cross-infection. I follow very strict cleaning procedures between each client’s visit.
Is it possible to do colonic irrigation during menstruation?
Yes; it can help alleviate period cramps.
How do I prepare for the colonic?
For 1-3 days before the colonic, increase water consumption to 2 litres per day (between meals). It is best to eat light, fibre-rich foods that pass through the digestive system easily. For example, vegetables and fruit and beans or pulses (only if you tolerate the latter two). Light protein is fine, e.g. fish. Avoid meat, bread, pasta, eggs, cheese and processed foods as these slow transit. Fat is fine. Avoid alcohol and minimise tea and coffee. If you are constipated, take 2 teaspoons of flax seeds per day leading up to the colonic. It is also fine to have just vegetable juice and bone broth (see below).
How many sessions do I need to clean the bowel out?
If you are wanting a really good clear out and detox, I recommend 2 sessions on consecutive days or over a few days. Over this period, I would consume purely vegetable juice and bone broth or vegetable broth and take ‘Clay and pectin blend’ (Specialist Herbal Supplies) in the evenings. This will maximise the detoxification.

Acupuncture with Chinese Herbal Medicine
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine are two branches of the Chinese Medicine ‘tree’:
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the most widely accepted forms of complementary medicine. Because is has been shown to be so effective, safe and free from side effects, more and more GP’s and others within the NHS are recognising it as something that could benefit patients and therefore have a place in mainstream healthcare.
Acupuncture is a system of medicine that is over 2000 years old. It has survived and grown simply because it has proved time and time again that it is effective, safe and adaptable to the individual. Acupuncture is based on the premise that the quality of your Qi determines your state of health. If your Qi is in balance, health is maintained; but when out of balance, illness and disharmony result. Imbalances in your Qi can come about from a variety of factors. Some examples include stress, poor diet, physical or emotional trauma, excessive emotional states, infections or overwork.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Herbal Medicine is the use of plant remedies to treat ill health. Whilst considered an alternative therapy in the West, the majority of the world’s population still rely on the use of plants as their main source of medical treatment. Chinese Herbal Medicine can cure all Western illnesses.
Health is more than just the absence of disease, and Chinese Medicine recognises this with its unique capacity to harmonise and enhance our capacity for enjoyment, fulfillment and happiness.
Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) is an ancient system of health care that has undergone continual development over the centuries as the causes of illness that afflict mankind have evolved. In its country of origin it is not an alternative form of therapy, but is used in the state hospitals alongside modern medicine.
Chinese Medicine is a complete medical system that is capable of treating disease in all its forms. Although your practitioner will treat whatever complaint you have come for, the traditional view places great importance on preventing disease before it occurs.
Chinese Medicine consists of:
- herbal therapy
- acupuncture
- dietary therapy
- exercise
- lifestyle management
Some or several of these may be employed in the course of your treatment.

What is multibed acupuncture?
The Anahata Health Clinic offers, in addition to one-to-one acupuncture treatments, Multi-bed acupuncture in a similar way to the Chinese, with many treatment couches in one big room, allowing efficiency and a community atmosphere and a cheaper treatment option.
Acupuncture is a very powerful healing system which has been in use for thousands of years. A qualified Acupuncturist can help many more conditions than simple pain relief including: headache, arthritis, muscle spasm, hormonal issues, IBS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, overall constitutional issues, psychiatric conditions, etc.
Indeed a good acupuncturist has a very different frame of reference to the western medical approach, which often sees disease as an enemy to be fought off. Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture seek to bring the body with all its physical and energetic processes into harmony with itself, balancing the yin with the yang.
Most people who experience ‘real’ acupuncture for the first time feel great wellbeing, as a result of their whole system coming into a better internal balance.
Acupuncture works well in conjunction with many different complementary therapies including: osteopathy, herbal medicine and massage, which are also available at Anahata Clinic.
What to expect from an acupuncture treatment
Please see our Videos page for more info about acupuncture and how it can help you.
Acupuncturists work to establish the cause, nature and location of an individual’s imbalance, and the most effective way to treat it. This is commonly done by the insertion of fine needles into particular areas of the body, known as acupuncture points. These points lie on channels (or meridians), which circulate Qi throughout the body. By fine tuning the Qi in the channels, acupuncturists aim to achieve balance, health and harmony of each individual.
Treatment also often consists of other techniques in place of, or in conjunction with, the needles, where deemed appropriate. These techniques include massage, acupressure, moxibustion (the use of a burning herb around areas of the body to create warmth and energy), cupping (suction cups that draw out toxins or pathogenic factors) and advice (usually surrounding the likely causes of the imbalance and possible ways of addressing these).
All our acupuncturists are fully trained, qualified, and registered with the British Acupuncture Council.

Acupuncture with Tuina
Acupuncture and Tuina are complementary Chinese Medicine practices:
Acupuncture very effectively promotes transformation at both physiological and emotional levels. For this reason it is very good to release blockages that cause pain in the body, discomfort in the mind and obstruction in the functions of the organs, as well as to improve vital substances such as qi, blood and fluids that fuel the organs and nourish the body. The subtle relationship between body and mind is a central part of my work – it is often the root cause of the condition, so I keep an eye on both aspects during diagnosis and treatments.
Please see our Videos page for more info about acupuncture and how it can help you
Tuina is a medical massage, which means that it is not only about relaxation. It works at a different level from Acupuncture but is based on the meridian system and uses the same principles. It has the advantage of releasing and redistributing the substances and soft tissues around the body by increasing the circulation of qi, blood and fluids. This benefits greatly the internal organs, the tissues of the meridians’ pathways and the mobility of the joints. Such balancing action also calms the mind and invigorates the immune system, which makes Tuina a therapy suitable for many conditions.

Ear acupuncture is available at £60/hr.
Low cost ear acupuncture sessions at £40/hr for BeWell members.
Auricular (Ear) acupuncture is part of traditional Chinese medicine and is based on ‘The Five Elements Theory’. It has been used in the west since the 1950’s and has been found to have beneficial results in health care.
The Five Elements theory understands that wood, fire, earth, metal and water are the basic elements of the material world. These elements are in constant movement and change. In traditional Chinese medicine Five Elements theory is used to interpret the relationship between the physiology and pathology of the human body and the natural environment.
Modern ear acupuncture is based on the work of the French Physician Dr Paul Nogier. He discovered over 200 ear acupuncture points in the ear. These points were then verified by research carried out in China.
In Chinese medicine the external surface of the ear is seen as an upside down foetus. Each organ/part of the body is represented within the ear. By inserting needles into these regions any blocked energy (qi) can start to move freely again. This reduces both physical and emotional illnesses and helps to balance the overall energies in the body.
What happens in a treatment session?
All clients receive an individual consultation and treatment based on a personal assessment. Ear acupuncture can be practiced either individually or in small groups of people with equally good results. Five to six needles are inserted in each ear. The treatment lasts for approximately 45 minutes. The client will sit quietly during this time and can do some Qi Gong (traditional Chinese self healing exercise) if they wish to. When the session is over, the practitioner removes the needles, and the client will have the option of having small magnets taped on to the pressure points to continue the treatment.
Ear acupuncturists follow a strict health and safety policy. They use sterile, single use, disposable needles, ensuring there is no cross infection.
“Acupuncture is valuable because it helps the patient prepare for the future, not merely cope with the past.” — Yuan College
What is ear acupuncture good for?
Ear acupuncture is renowned for what it can do with addictions, this includes alcohol and drug addictions, nicotine, etc. Overall it can do similar things as body acupuncture but is cheaper and less involved, with a much quicker training process. Some people prefer it to body acupuncture or just may want to try it out.
Mainly it is also good for mental health issues (depression, anxiety, panic attacks, ptsd), insomnia, digestive problems, pain in the body, headaches/migraines, infertility and hormones, asthma.
- Drug/ alcohol addiction
- Mental/ emotional problems, i.e. stress, anxiety, depression, OCD
- Restlessness/ insomnia

Cranial Osteopathy is available at £6o/session.
Low Cost Cranial Osteopathy is available at £40/session for BeWell members.
Many people are in desperate need of their Osteopathy appointment so please be considerate, and let us know with plenty of time if you no longer need your appointment, so we can offer the space to someone else.
Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment that encourages the release of stresses and tensions throughout the body, including the head.
It is a gentle yet extremely effective approach and may be used in a wide range of conditions for people of all ages, from birth to old age.
Cranial osteopaths are trained to feel for small changes and rhythms within the cranium, the spinal column and the sacrum. To do this we place our hands on key points of the body to feel where these stresses, tensions and torsions may exist.
These are released by gentle pressure, or by holding the head, spine or sacrum in a specific comfortable position.

Why do parents choose to bring their babies and children to see cranial osteopaths?
Cranial Osteopathy is a very gentle form of osteopathy, and is therefore very safe and effective for people of all ages, but particularly for babies and children.
Parents have reported excellent results when their children are brought in for a treatment.
It is particularly effective for babies and children who are having sleepless nights, colic, behavioural difficulties or feeding difficulties.
How could cranial osteopathy help a baby, child or adult to sleep better?
One explanation focuses on the pineal and pituitary glands. These glands secrete hormones, including melatonin, that help regulate sleep. The pituitary gland lies near the centre of the brain and sits on a cranial bone, called the sphenoid.
Cranial osteopaths believe that if there are stresses, tensions or torsions within the cranium, it can effect the functioning of these glands. We work to restore balance and normal movement of and in the cranium, believing that this will assist the normal functioning of these sleep-regulating glands.
Kinesiology
Kinesiology was originally developed by an American chiropractor called George Goodheart. He found that by testing muscles before and after he made a correction he achieved better results for his patients. As time progressed he was able to make a connection between various muscles and acupuncture meridians. By testing these muscles the kinesiologist can get a picture of what is happening in your meridian system and how this is affecting you. But, equally, the muscle testing can also show what has affected the meridians in the first place and indicate what is the best way to deal with that stress, be it emotional, physical, environmental, nutritional or mental.
So, kinesiology is a blend of the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and western techniques that allow a kinesiologist to treat you in a truly holistic manner. Each person’s session is unique to them. Kinesiology can establish connections between imbalances and can establish which is the priority issue to be dealt with and what is the most effective treatment.
Benefits of kinesiology
- Testing for food sensitivities and finding problem areas in the body/ mind system, and in what order to treat them in, what is the priority?
- Testing for what type of correction is needed, i.e. supplements, structural, emotional, vibrational?
- Testing out what and quantity of supplements and flower/ energy essences (minerals, vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids, herbs) would work for client, combined with emotional release.
- Structural release, again in combination with all of the above.
- Energy balancing by balancing over and under energy in the body/ mind system (I try to make this part of every session as it is such a good thing to do).
- Digestion issues – our overall health hinges on a healthy digestion, so this is one of the first things I would look at in a new client, depending of course on the reason they come to see me.
- New: Testing for and correcting retained primitive reflexes, such as “fear paralysis,” “Moro,” and many others, which may have contributed to developmental delays in children and adults.
- And much more: see Sabine’s website.

Osteopathy

What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It recognises that much of the pain and disability people suffer stems from abnormalities in our body’s structure and function. Osteopaths seek to diagnose and treat problems with muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints using gentle, manual techniques – easing pain and improving mobility.
As a profession, we are governed by the General Osteopathic Council who define osteopathy as, “a way of detecting and treating damaged parts of the body such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints. When the body is balanced and efficient, just like a well tuned engine, it will function with the minimum of wear and tear, leaving more energy for living.”
What do osteopaths treat?
This is by no means a definitive list, but osteopaths regularly treat each of the following:
- Joint pain (all joints including jaw)
- Muscle spasms
- Rheumatic pain
- Whiplash
- Back and neck pain
- Circulatory problems
- Digestive problems
- Sciatica
- Acute or chronic injuries including in elbows, knees, shoulders
- Frozen shoulder associated pain
- Headaches arising from the neck
Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health. Nutritional Health practitioners use a wide range of tools to assess and identify nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows them to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health.
Nutritional Therapy is relevant both for individuals looking to enhance their health and wellbeing and for those with chronic conditions.
Practitioners look at each person individually, sometimes assessing their state of health or imbalance with a test or screening machine, and then recommend personalized nutrition and lifestyle programmes.
What does a nutritional therapy session involve?
Before the first consultation, the practitioner usually provides a health and nutrition questionnaire for the client to complete. An initial consultation typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes, and in this time the practitioner asks detailed questions about current health concerns, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, medical history, family history, lifestyle, levels of physical activity, use of medication and supplements and diet. The practitioner then evaluates individual needs and develops a personalised, safe and effective nutrition and lifestyle programme.
One follow-up consultation is necessary in order to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments. Further follow-ups may be required depending on each individual situation.
Rachel also offers nutritional consultations with colonic hydrotherapy programmes, including Total Gut Repair as well as targeted cleanses such as a liver and gallbladder flush, kidney cleanse, liver cleanse and a heavy metal detox.
