Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Cognitive Therapy brings together ancient meditation techniques and modern methods from psychotherapy to offer you tools and methods for dealing with stress, anxiety and depression or low mood.

In recent years, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and its close relative Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) have become increasingly popular as a tool to help us deal with stress, anxiety and depression which are so common in modern society. Using the simple tools of mindfulness, we learn different ways of relating to our experience so that we can stop repeating the same old patterns that can lead us into feeling stressed, anxious or just that life is hard work.

MBCT/MBSR has also been clinically proven to be useful in preventing relapse into depression, and in learning to live with chronic pain.

As well as running regular MBCT courses at Anahata, Jiva also offers Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, on a one to one basis for anyone who may not wish to join a group or who cannot make the times that the groups run. I can tailor the times and exact course content to your personal needs when we work one to one.

Each course consists of 8 weekly sessions of 1 hour plus an initial orientation session by phone. During these we look at how unhelpful reactions to difficulties can lead to stress, unhappiness and feelings of not being able to cope. I will show you techniques to bring acceptance and kindness to yourself and others. You will see that our distressing thoughts may not be true, and learn to direct attention into the here and now. By developing mindfulness practices you can help yourself to maintain a calmer, more peaceful way of being with improved emotional regulation and more effective coping strategies for difficult times.
