Emma offers online therapy on Mondays to Fridays during the daytime and evening.

I am a qualified EMDR therapist, humanistic counsellor, and accredited member of the BACP, offering a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can explore what you are experiencing at your own pace. I work with adults who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or affected by past experiences that continue to shape their thoughts, emotions, relationships, or sense of self. My aim is to help you feel understood, while easing distress and supporting your overall wellbeing.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a well-established, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process difficult or overwhelming experiences that have not been fully resolved. When experiences such as trauma, loss, or ongoing stress are not adequately processed, they can continue to influence thoughts, emotions, physical responses, and beliefs about yourself. EMDR works by supporting the brain’s natural capacity to integrate these experiences so they feel less intense and more settled over time.

Safety and stabilisation are central to how I practise EMDR. Therapy is not about reliving experiences or pushing you to talk about anything before you are ready. We begin by building a trusting therapeutic relationship and focusing on helping you feel grounded and supported. This includes developing practical strategies for emotional regulation and resourcing, so you have tools to manage day-to-day life as well as the therapy process itself.

When you feel sufficiently prepared, we may gently begin to work with specific memories or themes using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements. This process supports the brain to reprocess experiences in a way that feels contained and controlled. You remain present and in charge of the pace, with the option to slow down or pause at any time.

EMDR can help with a wide range of difficulties, particularly when past experiences continue to affect life in the present. It is often used for trauma and PTSD, but can also support anxiety, panic, phobias, and feeling constantly on edge. Many people find EMDR helpful for low self-esteem, self-criticism, or repeating patterns in relationships or work, especially where these have roots in earlier experiences. EMDR can also support processing loss, medical or birth trauma, performance anxiety, and periods of stress or burnout. By gently helping the brain process what has felt overwhelming, EMDR can allow these experiences to feel less intense and easier to live with.

I integrate EMDR within a humanistic approach, meaning therapy is always tailored to you as an individual, with care taken to understand your values, needs, and circumstances.

I offer EMDR therapy online via secure video sessions, and this way of working is well-researched and highly effective. Many clients find online EMDR just as powerful as in-person therapy, with additional benefits. Working from your own space can increase a sense of safety and comfort, which is especially important for trauma work. Online sessions also allow greater flexibility, remove travel time, and make it easier to continue therapy consistently.

If you are considering therapy, you are welcome to get in touch to explore whether this way of working feels right for you.

I offer a 20 minute free initial consultation, online or by telephone, which is informal and relaxed and will focus on us getting to know each other to see whether we are a good fit.
