No one likes to be laid low by colds, flu or other nasty viruses, and some of us are more susceptible to them than others. If you’re looking for ways to build up your body’s immunity and protect yourself against illnesses, we’ve put together a selection of natural therapies that will strengthen your defences.
Your immune system works better at high temperatures – that’s why you sometimes feel warm or get a fever when your body is fighting off a virus. So saunas in general can help to boost your immune response, and an ozone sauna goes one better. As your body absorbs the ozone – an energised version of oxygen – it activates the immune system. The ancient Chinese preventative care method of Sanfu Moxa harnesses the power of summer to fight colds, coughs and flu the rest of the year. Your therapist will place warming herbs on certain acupuncture points on your back, which feels pleasant and takes just 15 minutes (although the herbs will stay taped to your back after you leave for the next four hours). You need three treatments on specific days – for 2021, these are happening between 12th and 31st July.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
The lymph system is an important part of your immune system, carrying nutrients and oxygen to the cells of the body and taking away toxins to be flushed out through the lymph nodes. Lymphatic drainage massage uses gentle, rhythmic strokes to improve the flow and drainage of lymph around the body. This helps your body fight off infection, and speeds up your recovery from illness.

There are a range of vitamins and minerals that can support your immune system, including vitamin C, zinc, vitamin D and vitamin B6.
