Meet Tom Waterman – Acupuncture, Tuina & Chinese Medicine at Anahata Health

At Anahata Health, we love introducing the passionate practitioners behind our therapies. We
welcome Tom Waterman. We are incredibly lucky to have Tom’s approach to Traditional Chinese
Medicine, Acupuncture, Tuina massage here at Anahata Clinic in Brighton. We truly appreciate how
he supports his clients dealing with pain, stress, and digestive health concerns.

Tell us about the therapies you offer at Anahata Health
I offer Acupuncture, Tuina (Chinese medical massage), Chinese Herbal Medicine, and integrated
Acupuncture and Tuina treatments. My approach is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which I
studied during a four-year degree at Middlesex University, graduating with first class honours in
2014.

Over the years, my practice has evolved towards a more classical and holistic understanding of
Chinese Medicine. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I aim to understand the wider picture
of a person’s physical, emotional, and energetic health.
Currently, I mainly work with acupuncture and Tuina, as I find these therapies can create profound
shifts in the body and nervous system. In some cases, Chinese herbal medicine may also be
introduced where appropriate.

What conditions do you commonly support people with?
I work with a wide range of conditions, but I have a particular interest in helping people
experiencing:

  • Digestive health concerns
  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Back, neck and shoulder tension
  • Sciatica and joint discomfort
  • Stress and anxiety-related symptoms
  • Chronic tension and fatigue

That said, I still consider myself a general practitioner at heart and enjoy supporting people with
many different aspects of their health and wellbeing.

What are the benefits of acupuncture and Tuina therapy?
Acupuncture and Tuina can help encourage balance within the body, improve circulation, ease
muscular tension, and support the nervous system. Many clients seek treatment to help manage
pain, improve mobility, reduce stress levels, and restore a greater sense of wellbeing.

I also find these therapies can be deeply grounding and calming, particularly for people who feel
overwhelmed, burnt out, or disconnected from their bodies.

What first inspired your interest in Chinese Medicine?
My interest in East Asian healing practices originally came through Chinese Martial Arts. Through
practices such as Qi Gong, meditation, and mindful movement, I became fascinated by the
connection between movement, energy, and health.

That curiosity eventually led me to study Traditional Chinese Medicine professionally. What
continues to inspire me is the depth of the medicine and its ability to treat people in a truly holistic
way.

What can people expect during a session with you?
A session begins with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, overall health, lifestyle, and
wellbeing. In Chinese Medicine, everything is connected, so understanding the wider picture is an
important part of the process.

Treatment may involve acupuncture, Tuina massage techniques, or a combination of both
depending on your needs. My aim is always to create a calm, supportive environment where clients
feel listened to, comfortable, and involved in their healing process.

What is most important to you as a practitioner?
Listening and supporting my clients is at the centre of my practice. I genuinely want people to feel
empowered in their health journey and to better understand their bodies.

Whether someone is dealing with chronic pain, stress-related symptoms, or long-term health
concerns, my goal is to provide treatment that feels thoughtful, personalised, and compassionate.

What do clients say about working with you?
Clients often seek treatment with Tom for support with chronic pain, stress management, scoliosis
discomfort, sciatica, sinus issues, and mobility concerns.

One client shared:
“Tom is extremely knowledgeable and beyond capable.”

Another said:
“One acupuncture session will set me right by the next day.”
