In these uncertain times, we’re all feeling in need of some direction and guidance. That’s why we want to introduce you to Charlotte Johnson, Anahata’s resident life coach and business mentor.
How long have you been a coach?
I have been coaching people for more than four years now. I enjoy meeting new clients and seeing the huge amount of untapped potential that they have, and then helping them to unleash it.
What benefits do people get from coaching?
Coaching helps you to enjoy life to the full and not waste time going down the wrong paths. It improves your sense of accomplishment, positivity and happiness.
Whether you’re looking for life coaching, as an individual, or coaching to help you develop your business, a coach can give you:
- Impartial and objective guidance and support
- Direction and positivity
- Help to identify your obstacles and ways to overcome them
- Practical ways to try moving forward
- Help to reach solutions that work for you
- Perspective on your issues
- A feeling that things are less complicated and more achievable than you believed
- Inspiration and hope
What are the main misconceptions about coaching?
Many people mistakenly believe that coaching is only for people who are struggling. Many of the world’s most successful people have a coach! Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Clinton and Serena Williams have all talked about how coaches have helped them to develop and grow.
There are two important things to be aware off though:
Firstly, coaching is not therapy. Whilst there is a natural overlap, therapy primarily explores emotions and often deals with things that happened in your past. Coaching is more practical and pro-active, focusing on reframing your mind into a resourceful, solution-focused state, to get things done and move you forward towards your goals.
Secondly, coaches rarely give advice. They work from the premise that the best possible person to know what is best for you, is you! We are experts at helping clients explore and come up with the best choices for themselves based on where they are and their vision for the future. You may not think you have the answers to your questions right now, but after a session with a coach you’ll probably be surprised at what you’ve come up with and how sure you are of the right way forward!
What can people expect when they come for a session with you?
We will spend a lot of time in one-on-on conversation, which includes fun and easy exercises.
What do you do when you’re not working?
I love movies, music, theatre and art. I am a keen kayaker and forever a beginner snowboarder! In my past life, before I became a coach, I was a film-maker and photographer, so I still dabble in that also.
